Ingredients:
250 gr powdered milk
100 gr butter
100 ml water
3-4 tablespoons cocoa powder
150 gr sugar
20 ml rum or vanilla extract
150 gr walnuts, chopped (or other mix-ins: cramberries, biscuits, raisins, candied fruits, coconut flakes etc)
a pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Grease and line a 20x20 (15x26) cm pan.
2. In a large bowl, sift together the powdered milk and the unsweetened cocoa powder. Add the chopped walnuts and mix.
3. In a saucepan on medium heat, place water, sugar and salt. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes until a syrup is formed.
4. Remove from the stove and add the butter and rum extract. Mix well until the butter is melted.
5. From this point forward, you have to work fast. Gradually pour the dry mixture into the pan, stirring with a whisk (at first), then with a wooden spoon, until everything is well incorporated.
6. Pour the mixture onto the parchment paper and spread it evenly with a spatula or with your wet hands. The mixture will harden pretty quickly so hurry.
7. Sprinkle the coconut flakes on top. You can also use crushed walnuts.
8. Leave to cool completely for a few hours in a cool place, but not in the refrigerator.
9. Cut into the desired shapes.
10. Store it in a plastic or glass container covered with a lid.
P.S. Walnuts can be replaced with any other kind of nuts (pistachios, pecans, cashews, almonds).
